Secondary School Teachers now eligible under Straight to residence pathway

What is the Straight to Residency pathway?

Migrant workers whose role features on the Green List category can seek residence immediately upon securing a job offer (Tier 1, Straight To Residence) or after working for 2 years in New Zealand (Tier 2, Work to Residence)). This list is reviewed on a regular basis and the latest update benefits Secondary School teachers.

What is the change for teachers?

Secondary school teachers will transition from the Green List Work to Residence pathway to the Straight to Residence pathway. This means that qualified and NZ-registered migrant teachers already working in New Zealand will have the opportunity to seek the Straight to Residence (STR) Visa in May. Overseas secondary school teachers meeting the criteria will be eligible to apply for residency from abroad upon securing employment with an accredited employer.

Secondary school teachers will transition from the Green List Work to Residence pathway to the Straight to Residence pathway.

This adjustment excludes other teaching positions (Early Childhood, Primary, Special Needs), which will continue under the Green List Work to Residence pathway (eligible for residency after 2 years work in New Zealand).
