Increase in median wage early 2024
Median wage increase
Immigration periodically reviews the salary thresholds that are used for certain visa categories, based on Statistics New Zealand’s data, updated yearly.
After initially deciding to increase the median wage used in the calculation of salary threshold for visa applications, the Government has decided to pause this increase for the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV). This means the median wage will remain at $29.66 per hour until further notice.
What are current salary thresholds for AEWV?
All current wage rates in place will remain under Accredited Employer Work Visa instructions, including:
- NZ$29.66 per hour for migrants employed on most AEWVs
- NZ$26.16 per hour for AEWV holders covered by the Care Workforce Sector Agreement
- Specific wage rates for other sector agreements and roles with exemptions to the median wage.
Other visa categories will use the new median wage
As initially announced last year, the median wage will still increase to NZ$31.61 in February 2024 for other visa categories that use it, such as the Skilled Migrant Category and Parent Category. However, this planned increase will not impact applications that are received before the increase so get in touch today to submit your application without delay, and ensure you beat the deadline.
