Impressed by the quality of life in New Zealand

My name is Khushbu, I am originally from India but have been living in Dubai for the past 20 years. I moved to New Zealand in June 2022 with my spouse and son.

The most challenging part of the process

The most challenging part of the process was the delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to travel restrictions and lockdowns, we faced significant delays in landing in New Zealand and starting our residency process. It was a time of uncertainty and anxiety, as we were eager to settle in the new country but had to wait for the situation to improve. However, our immigration agent Winnie Wang kept us informed about the evolving situation and helped us navigate through the process effectively.

Our Immigration Adviser

Our adviser was Winnie Wang. We are extremely grateful for the exceptional support and guidance provided by her throughout the entire process. From the initial consultation to the application of student visa and till the finalization of our residency, her knowledge and expertise were invaluable. She was highly professional, responsive, and proactive in addressing any concerns or queries we had. Our adviser had a deep understanding of the immigration system and kept us well-informed about the required documentation, timelines, and any changes in the process. She patiently guided us through each step, ensuring that we were well-prepared. Her attention to detail and commitment to our case made us feel reassured and supported during what could have been a stressful process.

My first impression was...

...that  New Zealand is simply captivating. The natural beauty and serene environment left a mark on our heart when we had come to visit in 2019. That was the moment we decided we need to spend our life here in this country. When we finally set foot in New Zealand, we were greeted by warm hospitality and a vibrant multicultural atmosphere. The friendly and welcoming nature of the locals made us feel instantly at home. The clean and well-maintained cities, along with the abundance of outdoor activities, showcased the high quality of life that New Zealand offers. Now after living here for a year, we feel that we had made the right decision to migrate here in New Zealand.

What I miss from home

We have been enjoying our new life in New Zealand, but there are a few things from our home country that we do miss. However, we have discovered a few places for getting our favourite products in New Zealand. Firstly, we have found that there are several stores in New Zealand that specialize in Indian products. These stores carry a wide range of Indian spices, ingredients, snacks, and other essentials that help us recreate the flavours of home. Secondly, the presence of Indian restaurants in New Zealand. Exploring these restaurants during the weekends allows me to savour the authentic flavours of Indian cuisine. Thirdly, we have found that there is a huge Indian community living in New Zealand. Due to this many Indian festival events are celebrated together.

My advice to other migrants

My advice to other migrants is to stay positive and patient throughout the immigration process. It can be a complex and sometimes challenging journey, but having a positive mindset and being patient will help navigate through any obstacles that may arise. Engaging the services of a reliable immigration agent, like NZ Shores, can significantly simplify the process and provide valuable guidance.

One thing I wish I knew before I moved

New Zealand offers a high standard of living. It is essential to be prepared for the cost of living, including accommodation, healthcare and daily expenses. Understanding the local currency, taxation system, and financial resources available can help ensure a smooth financial transition.
