We felt at home the minute we stepped off the plane!

My Name is Skye Broadway, I am originally from Zimbabwe but I have lived in the UK for the past 7 years where I met my husband and we had our little boy. With the way things were working out in the UK we made the decision to move to New Zealand, where we could provide a happier and safer life for our little boy.

The most challenging part for us was probably saying goodbye to friends and family and actually getting our ducks in a row to make the big move, especially with a one year old.

Our advisor Anastasiya Florests’ka, she was amazing! Honestly couldn’t have asked for someone more committed to getting our family over and putting up with our queries and questions and endless back and forth emails and skype calls. She helped with everything, from helping with advice on travelling to NZ on Working Holiday visa and NZeTAs to jobs and visas, she did an incredible job! Thank you!

Our first impression of New Zealand was flying into Queenstown airport in September and seeing the mountains covered in snow, the fresh air and the people, we were greeted by everyone coming through the airport and made to feel so welcomed! It was heartwarming, we felt at home the minute we stepped off the plane.

We do not miss much from the UK other than our family and friends and have made it our goal to stay in New Zealand for the foreseeable future. We couldn’t be happier.

My advice to other immigrants is to do your research! And have a base for when you get here, it is a hard but amazing journey and you will need a place to call home, unwind and gather thoughts and make decisions, get involved in the community and get to know people, you will be surprised how welcoming and helpful complete strangers in this country can be. One thing I wish I knew before we made the move was how much of a better life we would have had if we had done it sooner.

New Zealand is a special and magical place on the other side of the world hidden by so much of what happens on the outside that it makes it uniquely peaceful and a little world of its own, we couldn’t be luckier than to call this beautiful place our new home.
