What are the changes?
From 1st October 2019, the New Zealand government will introduce a new security and facilitation measure destined to speed things up at the border.
What this means for you
If you are from a visa waiver country, you will need to apply for this New Zealand electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) before you travel. Australian citizens are the only exception, who will not require an NZeTA. The process is done online and is expected to take from 10mn to 3 days maximum.
From 1 October 2019, these visitors are required to hold an NZeTA in order to board their flight (or cruise ship).
What is the cost?
The NZeTA request will cost NZ$9 if using the dedicated app, or NZ$12 if completed online.
You may also have to pay an International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL). The IVL costs NZ$35 and is paid at the same time as the NZeTA.
How long is the NZeTA valid for?
The NZeTA once granted will be valid for multiple entry for 2 years.
