Changes to New Zealand investment visa rules
The Government is streamlining the Active Investor Plus Visa to enhance New Zealand’s appeal for investment and stimulate economic growth.
What are these changes?
Effective from 1 April 2025, the following modifications will be implemented for this visa:
Simplifying the calculation of investments
The current weighting system will be replaced by two straightforward investment categories: Growth and Balanced.
Lowering the investment required
The minimum investment threshold will be lowered from $15 million to $5 million for Growth investors and to $10 million for those in the Balanced category.
Broadening the types of acceptable investments
The range of acceptable investments will be expanded to encompass bond and property investments, with fewer immigration stipulations (such as the duration of stay in New Zealand) for migrants opting for more active investment strategies.
A quicker path to residency
The timeframe for Growth and Balanced category visa holders to complete their investments in New Zealand will also be shortened, and last but not least, the requirement for English language proficiency will be waived altogether.
Further details regarding these changes will be released in early March.
