Changes to remuneration thresholds for Skilled Migrant and Essential Skills policy
The remuneration thresholds implemented in August 2017 in the Essential Skills Work Visa and Skilled Migrant Category have been revised, effective 15 January 2018. What does this mean for your job search, and could this impact your current situation?
| Threshold | Before 15 January 2018 | From 15 January |
| For skilled employment at ANZSCO 1-3 | $23.49 | $24.29 hourly or $50,523 yearly |
| For skilled employment at ANZSCO 14-5 | $35.24 | $36.44 hourly or $75,795 yearly |
| To earn bonus points | $46.98 | $48.58 hourly or $101,046 yearly |
| Threshold | Before 15 January 2018 | From 15 January |
| For skilled employment at ANZSCO 1-3 | $19.97 | $20.65 hourly or $42,952 yearly |
| For skilled employment at ANZSCO 14-5 | $35.24 | $36.44 hourly or $75,795 yearly |
Why revise the salary thresholds?
Because these thresholds are indexed against the New Zealand median income, they are updated at the end of each year.
What does this mean for my current visa?
If you already hold a visa, this will not affect you, nor the duration or condition of your visa. However, these changes apply to any new visa application, including renewals.
What does this mean for my residence application?
If you have submitted your Expression of Interest prior to 15 January 2018, the old remuneration thresholds will apply.
