22 Things Not To Miss in New Zealand – Ninety Mile Beach
Ninety Mile Beach is on the Western Coast at the top of the North Island and stretches from just west of Kaitaia towards Cape Reinga and is actually only 88 miles long!
The beach is a designated highway in New Zealand with a speed limit of 100km/h but is only really suitable for 4WD drive vehicles and is only safe to be driven at specific times due to the tides. Occasionally the beach is used as an alternative to State Highway 1 by tourists or if the road is closed. However, the easiest way to experience the beach is via one of the many bus trips which are available.
Beach activities range from swimming and fishing to bodyboarding down the huge sand dunes – a favourite experience amongst all of those who get to experience it.
