Permanent Resident visa – process now online
What is a Permanent Resident visa
A New Zealand Permanent Resident visa is valid for life. It allows you to travel in and out of New Zealand unrestricted, is not subject to travel conditions, and does not expire. In most cases, people first hold a Resident visa for 2 years, before they are able to remove their travel conditions and obtain Permanent Residency.
Who is eligible for Permanent Residency
You are eligible if you have held a resident visa for 2 years and meet certain conditions. These may be met by:
- spending enough time in New Zealand as a resident ; or
- having New Zealand tax residence status ; or
- having invested in New Zealand ; or
- having successfully established a business in New Zealand ; or
- having established a base with your family in New Zealand
We can check with you which requirement is most suitable for your application.
Online process
Up until this year, the process of applying for Permanent Residency was paper-based. It is now available online which allows to streamline applications with Immigration offices. However, obtaining PRV -even online- is not simply an administrative step, it is a key part of retaining residence in New Zealand, for life.
